“You may have the Universe, if I may have Italy.” ~Giuseppe Verdi

Join us as we return to Umbria, June 24-30th 2018 to beautiful Locanda del Gallo, named by Yoga Journal in 2017 as one of the 10 BEST retreat centers in the world!

Dates for tranquil and tropical Tenute del Gheppio in Campagnia for 2018 are forthcoming

Sunday, June 24th through Saturday, June 30th at La Locanda del Gallo in Umbria

Umbria is known as the “Lungs of Italy” because there are so many trees that it is said that all the oxygen the entire country needs to BREATHE is produced in these green hills… On Dhyana Yoga’s annual retreat to Italy led by JOHN VITARELLI, with assistance from DIANA VITARELLI, you’ll find refuge at La Locanda del Gallo for yourself, an expansive private estate with so much to offer…

Included • 2-3 meals each day • daily room cleaning * sheets & towels, robe & pool towel * wifi • daily yoga classes • access to the piano & reading room & honor bar stocked with coffees & libations * infinity salt water pool * heated jacuzzi * wood fired steam shower * cooling aromatic shower with essential oils *

Book your flights to Rome or Florence and after a quick train ride, we’ll pick you up at the Perugia train station. Day one is generally spent settling in to the guest house, with ample time to freshen up, walk the grounds, and enjoy some drinks on the veranda before dinner. You can rest up in a fresh, well appointed room filled with art and exotic furnishings and rise early for our first morning yoga session. After yoga, we walk to breakfast enveloped by the scent of lavender and rosemary spilling from the many enormous bushes all around the grounds. Then, refresh yourself in the salt water infinity pool and hot tub while bathing in sunlight or enjoy a good book on a lounger. We will practice in a fully stocked yoga studio with panoramic views of the natural scenery, and this year we will also offer both barre and meditation classes upon the group’s request in addition to the regular morning practices. Day trips will be scheduled to nearby places such as Assisi, Gubbio, and our personal favorite, Spello, and wine tastings at local vineyards are usually highlights of our week! Towels, robes, wifi, honor bar, spa with steam shower, fresh linens, hair dryers, and daily room cleaning are all included by our hosts, Paola and Irish (owners of La Locanda del Gallo), as are 2-3 delicious meals a day (vegan, gluten-free, etc? no problem!) prepared by chef extraordinaire, Pia, and served by a professional wait staff. This trip is truly a slice of heaven, and we hope you can join us so we can share with you the treasures we have unlocked by traveling here every year and making friends. We have scouted the best vineyards, the best spot for ceramics, the best open air markets, and love to set up extra events for attendees like cooking lessons and body work on site!

We hope to continue on to Tenute del Gheppio in Campagna for the first week in July! Details forthcoming…
Hidden in a sweeping valley, surrounded by vineyards and fruit orchards, a newly renovated 18th century castle awaits you! Beautifully redesigned with a glass elevator, sunny roof decks, shaded patios and a piazza en blanc, Tenute del Gheppio masterfully blends the old and the new. Around back you’ll find an enormous pool suitable for kids of all ages, a full playground, and mini zoo with friendly horses, goats, birds and bunnies. Another highlight is of course the glorious wine cellar, quietly keeping the temperature steady on the family’s own vintages, straight from the surrounding vineyards. Gourmet meals are prepared in the fully outfitted, stainless steel, open kitchen and served at luxurious tables on the castle’s main floor.

Prices are per person, so if you prefer a room to yourself, just double the “per person” rate. Many yogis travel alone on retreats and we arrange roommates for them. We try to introduce you to your roommate ahead of time whenever possible, at least by phone. If you or a potential travel partner is not that into Yoga, it’s ok! We have had all kinds of people attend this retreat over the years and we understand that for some, it’s a chance for a great vacation, and the Yoga might be secondary. John will be working with any level of practitioner, so if you are seasoned and have things you want to work on, he can tailor certain classes to do so, and if you are new, this is a perfect time to get some personalized instruction from an experienced teacher who knows how to make the practice accessible and keep it safe…and fun!

You will need to secure your own travel to the retreat. Airfare varies so start searching now for the best options. Book your flight for either retreat into either Florence or Rome. From either city, you then take the train (TrenItalia) to your local destination. The train station in Rome is connected to the airport to it’s incredibly easy and trains leave on the regular. It is not difficult to do from Florence either. In any case, we can then have a driver meet you at the local train station at any time you arrive to pick you up, or you can take a quick taxi ride to either estate. If you want, you could also rent a car and have full freedom to explore the region on your own. With GPS in rental cars these days, it’s not as scary of an idea as it used to be! It may be your preference to add an extra night before or after the retreat in the city you fly in and out of, too. If you have any questions about this, we have traveled in Italy often, and would be more than happy to help you create an itinerary that makes sense.

Please email John at to sign up, with questions, or if you want to generally chat about the details of the trip.
