Today’s yoga instruction has become heavily influenced by Western anatomical language and cueing. The problem that this presents is that it leads the mind toward the intellectual and away from the experiential, and over exerts the physical body, at its own detriment, in pursuit of an external form. In this informative and transformative workshop you will uncover and unravel the mysteries and intricacies of functional movement and alignment, and come to better understand how injuries are caused by a yoga practice that is overly willful. You will obtain a general understanding of the gross anatomical features of muscles, bones and fascia and how the body, by way of the myofascial matrix, uses a  fluid dynamic system to create balance in structure and ease in movement. As you learn to listen and respond to these subtle energetics you will integrate a new awareness into the physical practice of yoga, which will lead you beyond the obstructions and limitations of your practice.

Richmond Dickson began practicing and studying yoga, and massage therapy and bodywork in 2001. His understanding and awareness of the physical and energetic forms of the body stem from his training in myofascial and musculo-skeletal anatomy at the Core Institute School of Massage Therapy and Bodywork, where he went on to head the Department of Sciences. Richmond has worked his entire professional career, as a Licensed Massage Therapist and yoga instructor, to help his clients better understand their postural habits and dysfunctional patterns for the purpose of reducing injury, and/or rehabilitating and reducing chronic pain syndromes. Richmond has a degree in Alternative Medicine, is an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant and Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist, and is the founder and owner of The New England School of Therapeutics.
