It would be ridiculous to put it to the side just to twist during the work day. Maybe I twist when a co-worker has a question. Maybe. Otherwise, no way. For the first few years of my practice, my twists were tight. I felt like I was trying to open a jar of salsa that would not budge. I remember the exact class when that changed. The teacher stood behind me, told me to breathe, and as I exhaled she twisted me open like it was nothing. I swear I loosened it for her. In hindsight, I was contracting muscles that I should have relaxed and vice versa. In this workshop we’ll explore how to twist. We’ll warm up with a light vinyasa flow, work in partners to see how the body twists in common poses, apply that knowledge in a more vigorous flow, and close with breath work and meditation.” ~Harris
About the teacher: Harris teaches vinyasa in the Philly area and has assisted John Vitarelli’s vinyasa and Ashtanga Mysore classes for over a year. He guides students’ focus to the breath by gently adjusting a student’s posture to the midline and verbally cueing where to send the breath.
