Event Description

Avidya in America. Part 1: Asmita (The ego)

Friday, June 24th 8-9pm at Dhyana Yoga Rittenhouse

Description: If ignorance is bliss, then the American culture is that of a pig happily frolicking in its own shit. In his Yoga Sutras, Patanjali identifies the branches of ignorance (aviyda) that bind us (purusha) to the material world (prakriti). Join Harris for a four part series of open discussions about structures within the American culture and subcultures that play into these branches of ignorance. He will lead the group through pranayama (breath control) before they review philosophy then identify modern structures of ignorance reinforced by images and words.

You do not need to attend all four parts in order to participate. The conversation will build over time, but the material will not. The basics of the philosophy will be covered each week.
